Dong Hoi has been nearly entirely rebuilt since 1989 (see Dong Hoi history tour under Dong Hoi Attractions), resulting in newer homes with a French architectural flavor that line quaint tree-shaded lanes of the residential area surrounding the Nam Long Hotels. This short self-guided stretch-your-legs walk takes you into this pleasant neighborhood where in the evenings you will see children playing in the streets, friends and family visiting and perhaps old men playing checkers. The walk then gives a glimpse of Riverwalk Park and the cathedral ruins before returning to the Nam Long. Ask the front desk for a free map. Follow the blue route.
