The bus and English speaking tour guide depart our Hotels at 7:30AM, returning the following day about 3-5pm.
You ride through rolling rubber tree and banana plantations, then flat and terraced green rice fields en route to Ke Bang-Phong Nha National Park, home of numerous world famous caves. With the assistance of porters, trek through the jungle to remote Doong village. (You are now near Son Doong cave, the largest in the world…but that is another–and very expensive–tour). Doong village, home to 42 residents, is photogenic but remote and impoverished. If you wish, bring sweets or small healthful treats for the children.
Enjoy lunch beside a large river deep in the jungle, after which we trek again through the jungle to the cave, over 2 km long and over 100 meters high (it’s massive!). After exploring the cave, we make camp near a stream by a smaller entrance to the cave. Your guides will prepare your dinner over the fire and look out for you overnight.
Breakfast is 8:30am, then trek back to Doong village for lunch, and back to the bus for the trip back to our Hotels in Dong Hoi. Total trekking time each day is about four hours. All guest reports have given it a “thumbs up”.
