This tour includes both the Phong Nha “Disappearing River” cave (see above) and the Dark Cave.
The bus and English-speaking tour guide depart our Hotels at 8:15AM. You ride through rolling rubber tree and banana plantations, then flat and terraced green rice fields en route to this unique UNESCO World Heritage cave, with a record 5km of river flowing through it (only first part accessible by boat). Upon arrival in Phong Nha village, you board the tour boats (converted local fishing boats) for the scenic Son River ride to the cave entrance, and then into the cave itself by boat. Gaze upward as you first float into the “great room” entrance. If you look carefully at the cave ceiling you will see shrapnel scars from the missile that targeted its use as a transhipment point where war materiel was transferred from boats to trucks that headed south down the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Now duck as the boat silently passes a low entrance that opens into surprising formations and great halls with sandy beaches! You disembark and explore before returning out the mouth of the cave.
After lunch back at Phong Nha station, re-board the bus for the ride to the Dark Cave, discovered in 1990. The cave is about 5 km long and, like the name implies, is not illuminated. Using a headlamp and other special equipment inside the cave, you will swim across Thuy Tien Lake to explore further into the cave. Includes kayaking, an exciting zip line across the river and having a fun mud bath before cleaning yourself off in the lake deep inside the cave!
You arrive back at Nam Long Hotels around 5:30PM.
